A heated confrontation ensued in parliament following a dispute on Wednesday night, triggered by Greens MP Michael Berkman’s motion addressing the Israel-Gaza conflict.
Mr. Berkman boldly stated in the House, “This government must face its accountability in the ongoing tragedy in Palestine.”
Referring to the Hamas attacks last year, Mr. Berkman emphasized the Greens’ condemnation of civilian assaults. He expressed deep concern over Israel’s severe retaliation, describing it as unbearable and distressing to witness.

The Maiwar representative’s vocalization of “free, free Palestine” upon conclusion of his time ignited a stir in the legislative chamber, prompting a response from various Katter Australian Party MPs who vehemently opposed his stance. In response, Mr. Katter criticized Mr. Berkman’s perspective as being one-sided and biased, questioning the absence of discussion regarding Hamas in the motion. He emphasized that no party involved in the conflict should be exempt from scrutiny. Mr. Katter declared the party’s non-support for the motion, expressing surprise at its presence in the House.
