Fake Bomb Incident Arrest

A man in Sydney faced charges after allegedly placing a suspicious item, initially thought to be a bomb, on a vehicle of an individual who displayed a Palestinian flag outside his Botany residence.

Following the incident, the NSW Police apprehended a 44-year-old suspect during a search conducted at a property in Botany last Thursday.

Charges against the man include two counts of stalking or intimidating with the intent to instill fear of physical harm, transmitting material to cause alarm, utilizing a communication service to threaten or harass, and trespassing on enclosed premises.

Discovery of Suspicious Device at Botany Residence

Theo, who opted for anonymity due to safety concerns, found a concerning object attached to his ute’s bonnet at his Botany home on January 5.

The object in question was a jerry can containing a small amount of petrol with a rag stuffed into its open lid. Additionally, a lighter was affixed to the top, and several bolts were secured to the side.

Accompanying the device was a note stating: “Enough! Take down flag! One chance!!!!”

Following the discovery, Bomb Squad officials were summoned to the scene to safely remove the item, confirming it posed no threat.

Theo expressed his distress upon finding the device, particularly fearing for his partner’s safety.

Despite the intimidation, Theo remained resolute in displaying the Palestinian flag and addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on his property.

Police Investigation and Subsequent Events

Law enforcement established a crime scene at Theo’s residence and initiated a thorough inquiry.

On February 16, Theo reported receiving a menacing phone call, prompting police involvement and a subsequent investigation.

Following a search warrant, authorities confiscated multiple items from the premises and took the individual into custody.

The suspect has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear via audio-visual link at Downing Centre Local Court today.
