Joshua Burgoyne Careless Driving Charges

Joshua Burgoyne, a Northern Territory Country Liberal Party MP, is facing charges of careless driving causing serious harm after a traffic incident in Alice Springs in August 2023. Following the accident, Mr. Burgoyne expressed gratitude that his wife, who was heavily pregnant at the time, remained unharmed.

Upon being informed by the police last week about the likelihood of facing charges related to the accident, Mr. Burgoyne confirmed today that he has indeed been charged with careless driving causing serious harm under the Traffic Act. This offense carries a maximum penalty of 18 months in jail or a fine of approximately $7,000.

During a press conference, Mr. Burgoyne delivered a brief statement and refrained from answering any questions. He admitted that he had not anticipated being charged in connection with the incident. Country Liberal Party leader Lia Finocchiaro disclosed that Mr. Burgoyne had informed her about the accident shortly after it occurred.
