Customers across the nation who shopped at Walmart may soon receive refunds as part of the settlement. The lawsuit alleged deceptive practices by Walmart and pertained to certain products like meat, poultry, pork, seafood, and bagged citrus. Purchases made in-person at Walmart stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, are included in the settlement terms.

The settlement administrator has outlined that Walmart shoppers who bought the specified “weighted goods” during the mentioned timeframe could qualify for cash reimbursements.

### Walmart Shoppers Settlement Cash: Understanding the Class-Action Lawsuit Outcome

In 2022, a class-action lawsuit against Walmart resulted in a settlement that addressed allegations of overcharging customers. The lawsuit accused Walmart of deceiving and misleading practices that unfairly benefited the company financially at the expense of its shoppers’ grocery budgets.

The legal action claimed that Walmart had inaccurately represented the weight of certain grocery items, including bagged produce like oranges, grapefruit, and tangerines. Additionally, customers were allegedly overcharged for clearance products sold by weight, leading them to pay more than the items’ lowest advertised prices.

This settlement highlights the importance of transparency and accuracy in pricing practices, ensuring that customers are not unfairly charged for their purchases.

The cash settlement for Walmart shoppers will vary based on the number of applicants, qualifying items bought, and retention of receipts. Those who submit proof of purchase may get back 2% of the total spent on eligible products and citrus, with a maximum limit of $500 per individual.

Once the hearing concludes without any appeals, the settlement payments will undergo processing. These payments will be electronically transferred through Venmo, Zelle, ACH, or a virtual prepaid Mastercard. Alternatively, claimants have the option to request paper checks. It is important to note that the settlement administrator cautions that the funds may not immediately reflect in customers’ accounts.

“Please exercise patience,” advises the website. “It could take several months for the Settlement to be finalized and for Claims to be duly processed.”
